Easter Sunday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church

Pastor Russell referred to this as Resurrection Sunday and indeed it was.  HE IS RISEN.  Since that heartbreaking Good Friday two thousand years ago, the cross has transitioned from a devastating piece of wood to an endearing symbol.  Today our beautiful cross was dressed in its floral finery.

An Outing in Middle Tennessee

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I traveled to Giles County to explore Pulaski and Lynnville, Tennessee.  It was a beautiful day and a beautiful, historic area.

On December 25, 1865 in Pulaski, six Confederate Army veterans established a secret society later known as the Ku Klux Klan. These white insurgents were determined to fight against the political advancement of freedmen and of sympathetic whites.

Also occurring in Pulaski in 1838 were two Cherokee detachments, one led by John Bell and the other John Benge.  These detachments were part of the infamous Trail of Tears in which many native Americans were removed from their homelands in the southeast states of America to the unsettled land west of the Mississippi River.

Returning home, we stopped in Lynnville, a quaint town with the Colonel Littleton Ltd., an amazing leather goods store, and the Soda Pop Junction, an ole-timey soda shop/restaurant.

It was truly an enlightening day.  Tennessee is full of much history.

Almost 14 Years Later…

Everyone I mentioned in my first profile/post has now passed on.  Back in October 2009 I thought writing a blog would allow me to express myself as well as learn from those who would follow me.  Unfortunately the blog did not come to fruition.  My youngest son died from an overdose in 2010, my husband died in 2018 from complications after open-heart surgery and then my oldest son died in 2020 from cancer.

After 14 years, I have decided to try again.  I would like to share things that happen in my life whether they are informative, comical, educational or touching.  I hope my followers will be encouraged to add to the blog by voicing their feelings in the comments.

I trust by simply sharing thoughts and feelings each of my readers can gain some kind of insight into our wonderful world.

Blessings,

Fran

The Nelson Field

My husband Michael and I have lived in Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau for three years now and ever since we learned my Great Grandparents ~ Hans and Molly Nelson ~ had 3000 acres in Morgan County, we have tried to locate the land. A few months ago my cousin Suzie came for the weekend and we decided once again we would search for the land. While driving down Meister Hills Road, a country road we had been on many times before, my husband spotted a man working in his garage. I encouraged Michael to stop so I could inquire about the family land. Well, we all got out of the car and when I asked the stranger if he might have any idea where the land might be...lo and behold he pointed directly across the street and referred to it as "The Nelson Field." What an absolute delight! Finally we had found some of the acreage our forefather had worked so hard to clear and develop into farmland.
